ADHUNIKA (KALO PAAR) (STR)
Story:
Aditi in Nayak is someone I consider my inspiration. A woman who wears her large square-rimmed glasses ,fountain pen and dimples in style, uses her brains over her beauty, is upright and strong and yet, has a soft feminine side which reflects in her last conversation with the Matinee Idol – “??? ???? ???”. A woman who chose to protect the secret of a stranger over the roaring business his one interview could fetch for her magazine, “Adhunika”.
Aditi played by Sharmila Thakur in Nayak wore a Machh (fish) block printed saree throughout the movie. A humble short sleeved blouse and that beautiful saree. We recreated that pattern on hand blocks and printed them on a Begumpuri Saree. Since Nayak was a black and white film, we used our imagination for colours. We have named it Adhunika after the magazine that Sharmila co-edited in that film.
To our modern women. Adhunika.
