Story:

"প্রণমিয়া পাটুনী কহিছে জোড় হাতে।
আমার সন্তান যেন থাকে দুধে ভাতে॥
তথাস্তু বলিয়া দেবী দিলা বরদান।
দুধে ভাতে থাকিবেক তোমার সন্তান॥"

This saree draws inspiration from Raygunakar Bharatchandra’s poem “Annapurna o Ishwari Patani”. It is my tribute to every parent whose primary instinct is to enquire, “Have you eaten?”
For parents, the universal yardstick for the wellbeing of those they nurture, is what they put on their plates. Enquiries about their children begins and ends with that one question: "খেয়েছিস?"
Perhaps that is why Ishwari Patani could think of nothing else when Annapurna sat aboard his boat granting him wishes. No riches, boons, worldly pleasures or spiritual gains. All he wished for, was that one primeval, basic want that we all have, for what is ours:
"আমার সন্তান যেন থাকে দুধেভাতে... "

(May my child be forever nourished with abundant milk and rice)

May all our creations flourish ~ whether physical or intellectual, emotional or artistic; the poetry, music, cinema and literature we cherish and the children we nourish. (And, that includes our feline and canine babies too!)
