Story:
Those who follow my work, know Malar. I did a series on her and her daughter in Pondicherry just a few days back. Powerful, kind, ever-smiling and smashing every possible stereotypes that exist.
I represented Malar exactly the way I saw her. I was told that women don’t put sacred ashes on their body like Malar did. But I have seen Malar like this for years. Jewelery, mogra, Kumkum, Bhibhuti and a soul of a lion.
Does every Tamil woman dress like her? Am I stereotyping? Of course not.
I recreate women who inspire me. It can be a Rekha or a Malar.
I recreate memories.
And Malar is a beautiful memory.
